ABOUT ME

Pavel Rieger – German to Czech translator, English to Czech translator

Pavel Rieger – German to Czech translator, English to Czech translator

My name is Pavel Rieger and I am a translator from Marienbad (spa town Mariánské Lázně) in the Czech Republic. I speak Czech, German, English, Polish and Russian. I translate only from German to Czech and from English to Czech. I use my knowledge of remaining languages to contact my customers or to find the appropriate equivalent of some difficult German or English words.
I graduated from the University of Economics, Prague (UEP): in 2003 I obtained the master degree (Ing.) and in 2016, after defending my Ph.D. dissertation at the Department of Law, also the Ph.D. degree. I spent three semesters of my studies at the Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (F.A.U., Germany), a partner university of the UEP.
In 2001, I passed my exams in German language at both mentioned universities. At the UEP, it was the General State Language Exam (the examining board was chaired by Prof. PhDr. Věra Höppnerová, DrSc.); at the F.A.U., it was the DSH exam.
In Germany, I have worked full-time for a software company DATEV eG and later also part-time for a research institute Bayerischer Forschungsverbund Wirtschaftsinformatik (Bavarian Research Cooperation Information Systems, FORWIN).

REFERENCES vs. NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENTS

I have signed strict non-disclosure agreements (NDA) with the majority of my customers, so it is not possible to publish names of these customers. Under no circumstances... My customers are companies, translation agencies and barristers, mostly from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain, the U.S.A. and other countries of Europe or America.
You can visit my user profile at ProZ.com to see a briefly feedback on my work (written by my customers from Austria, Russia and Spain).
I have not concluded any NDA with the publishing house Marco Polo, so it is possible to state their 25 travel guides as my reference translation work.

What can you expect as my customer?

  1. As a native speaker of Czech language adhering to the “mother language principle”, my main translation pair is German to Czech, followed by English to Czech.
  2. You can send me your documents in roughly 60 file formats. I own a valid licence for many graphic applications and therefore: my translation has usually the same graphical layout as original documents.
  3. As a former researcher in the fields of IT and Law, I have published several foreign language publications, that have been cited by different scientists in all populated continents. Apart from the descriptive (in manuals), advertising, educative (in travel guides) and narrative styles of writing, I also have experiences of using the scientific style.
  4. For a professional translator, it goes without saying that all translated texts are in accordance with valid spelling and grammatical rules of the Czech language. Even if you do not need any translation, you can order a proofreading of a text in Czech language.
  5. I perform all translation / proofreading jobs myself. However, two translators are usually able to create a better translation than a sole translator. If you wish me to ensure checking / editing of my translation or its proofreading by another translator(s) / linguist(s), please let me know in your translation order.

How do I calculate the prices of my translation work?

  1. Once you have sent me your request for quotation, you can expect my price quotation within several hours. This quotation is not binding to you at this stage. Once you have approved this price quotation, it becomes a binding order.
  2. Translations of coherent texts with an easy graphic layout will be usually charged on the basis of word count in the source language (or standard pages count, rounded to the nearest tenths of a standard page). A standard page let be defined as 1800 characters (inclusive spaces).
  3. Translations of text in tables (with an easy graphic layout) and SEO translations (Search Engine Optimization) will be usually charged on the basis of word count in the source language.
  4. Translations of documents with a difficult graphic layout will be usually charged on the basis of hour count or as a sum resulting from my hourly and word rates.
  5. If you are a resident of any EU country and you do not tell me your valid VAT ID (or you do not have any), I must charge the Value Added Tax.
  6. I do not charge any express fees for urgent translations. If I do not have enough time to do a high-quality job, it cannot be rectified by any additional fee.
  7. You can pay by bank transfer (EUR, CZK) or by payment systems PayPal (EUR, USD, GBP, CZK) and Payoneer (EUR, USD, CZK).
